Israel was compelled to trust God each day. They had to release their insecure grip - clinging to yesterday's manna. They discovered that God had something for them each morning. There was more to come. God had more to give. Isn't that the core issue? Our soul's backward gaze can be a statement of insecurity. Does God have anything for me now? Remember- Jesus told us to pray for our "daily bread". What is true for our bodies is true for our soul. In the same sermon, Jesus advised that we take one day at a time. (By the way, that is all any of us can receive and hold!) Manna - the sustenance of God- cannot be stored. It is to be gathered daily. "What if the manna stops?" There’s the root of our fear. We are afraid to live by faith. We worry that we will awake and God will not sustain, support or speak. But while manna has a daily expiry - grace never does.
